Two New Zealand Ski Resorts Open for the Season 24-06-09

New Zealand’s Mt Ruapehu and The Remarkables ski resorts have both officially opened for the season. The Remarkables opened in bright sunshine above the low hanging cloud in Queenstown, providing the ideal weather in which skiers could enjoy the excellent snow cover. Eager skiers were welcomed with a glass of Lindauer bubbles, whilst mascots Spike and Shred were also on hand to entertain visitors. The resort was able to open all ski lifts, with The Remarkables ski area manager, Ross Lawrence, commenting that the opening had been the best in years.

The Turoa ski area on Mt Ruapehu also enjoyed a good opening day, with more than 3000 skiers and boarders taking to the slopes at the weekend. The good weather on Sunday attracted double the number of skiers on the Sunday compared to the opening Saturday.
