Ski Jasper

Located in the awe-inspiring, vast and rugged landscape of Jasper National Park, Marmot Basin is as unpretentious as it is pristine.

Overlooking breathtaking mountain vistas, you will find the 1,675 acres, 84 runs and 3,000 vertical feet of varied terrain that make up Marmot Basin – the second highest base elevation of all Canadian ski areas.

Marmot’s trails are split between easy, intermediate and advanced, making this an ideal destination for people of all abilities. Marmot’s basin shape means that it is an easy mountain to navigate; groups with individuals skiing at varying levels can each discover their favorite run, but always meet at the bottom and ride the chair lift together. Moreover, being a bit off the beaten path, Marmot Basin is very rarely crowded; you can practically own the mountain and never have to wait in a long line for the chair. With no lift lines and plenty of untouched powder in which to carve your own fresh tracks; this ensures more time for what you came here for; great skiing and snowboarding.

When you’re taking a break from the slopes, the new Kokanee Glacier Sun Deck on the Caribou Chalet provides 2,000 square feet of scenic relaxation. The view down the Athabasca Valley and deep into the heart of the Rockies was chosen “The Best New View” of 2007 by Ski Canada.

At Marmot Basin, snow is not only their livelihood but also their passion. It's no surprise, therefore, that the commitment to taking care of their surroundings is unparalled. Protecting and enhancing the environment remains at the forefront of Marmot Basin’s objectives. Located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Marmot Basin and Jasper take pride in being environmental stewards.

Marmot Basin is the first of the four Canadian Rocky Mountain National Park Ski Areas to negotiate its Vision Statement and Site Guidelines with Parks Canada and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.

This mutual agreement has resulted in a “substantial environmental gain” (about 18% of Marmot Basin’s leasehold) to provide a greater habitat to a number of wildlife and vegetation species including the woodland caribou.

It is not uncommon to see many of Jasper’s more “wild” residents, such as elk, bear, deer and sheep joining in leisurely strolls around town or on the way to the ski area. This wilderness wonderland creates the perfect backdrop to some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the Canadian Rockies.

Both the town of Jasper and Marmot Basin offer an authentic Canadian Rocky Mountain experience that is easy-going, relaxed and free of chaotic lines and crowds. Jasper has managed to preserve a small-town feeling while offering the amenities you expect from a world-class winter resort. And this year, you can help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Jasper in January! Enjoy discounts on hotel rates and lift tickets during the two-week long festival while attending countless events such as a huge Town Street Party to beer and wine tasting dinners to the famous Mountain Park Lodge Chili Cook-Off!

Most importantly, when you visit, you will always be greeted warmly and will very quickly feel like a local both on the slopes and in the town – you may never want to leave!
