Chatel Advanced & Off-Piste Skiing
In Chatel’s Linga section the Tete du Linga and Cornebois have on-piste and off-piste challenges for advanced skiers. There are also a few testing runs in the Super Chatel-Torgon sector. But advanced skiers will really want to explore the whole of the Portes du Soleil domain.Linga section
The red from the top(linga) with a black variant at mid mountain (Francois Macchi) is good fun and usually has excellent snow.
There is lot of off-piste here: some beside the piste and under the lift, and more to skier’s right which accesses a mini-valley that runs into the La Leiche blue. Then there are more serious itineraries (guide strongly recommended) going off the back into the Morgins valley. There are also black runs accessed from Cornebois and from the Rochassons lift heading towards Avoroaz.
Super Chatel and Torgon
The Morclan lift is the obvious place to head to as it accesses two black runs going in different directions: west facing Barbossine, heading into Petit Chatel and the shorter but steeper East-facing Ombrieux heading over the Swiss side.
At Torgon there is both an ungroomed itinerary at Tronchey, and a freeride zone at Djeu des Tetes. Both are worth visiting.
The Portes du Soleil
Highlights include the off-piste at Les Crosets and the Swiss Wall (covered in the Ultimate Ski Champery advanced & off-piste guide), then Les Hauts Forts black run down to les Prodains (covered in the Ultimate-Ski Avoriaz advanced & off-piste guide), Nyon and Chamossiere (covered in the Ultimate-Ski Morzine advanced & off-piste guide) and the North face of Mont Chery (covered in the Ultimate-Ski Les Gets advanced & off-piste guide).
