Driving to Courmayeur

From within Italy, the Aosta Valley A5 toll motorway leads directly to Courmayeur. As Courmayeur is just on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc tunnel, it is also an easy drive from Geneva, just across the border in Switzerland, to where there are many flights daily. Snow chains or winter tyres should be booked in advance.

Having a car makes it easier to visit other ski resorts nearby such as Chamonix and Pila. La Thuile, though public transport services are also available. Good car parks are available at the Dolonne gondola and the Val Veny cable car stations, but parking in central Courmayeur is not always easy. Apart from when accessing hotels – it is best not to drive into the historic hamlets as roads can be extremely narrow in places!

Courmayeur Local Bus Services

By local bus – there is an excellent local bus service during the day, with routes linking all the main areas of Courmayeur and its hamlets. There is also a good ski bus service to the ski resort of La Thuile with which Courmayeur has lift pass sharing arrangements. Local buses can also be taken to the nearby towns/resorts of Pre San Didier, Chamonix and Aosta (which has ski lifts going up to Pila). Details of the services and bus timetables can be found in the bus operator’s offices in Piazzale Monte Bianco.
