Following the closure of Italian and Austrian ski resorts earlier in the week, Swiss ski resorts have announced they too will cease operations either immediately or by Monday 16th March 2020. This was in response to the Swiss Federal Government’s emergency measures to prevent the further spread of the covid-19 Coronavirus by banning all gatherings of more than 100 people.
Separately in Spain, most of the largest Spanish ski resorts have announced their immediate closure as well, including Baqueira/Beret, Formigal-Panticosa and La Molina.
World-famous Swiss ski resorts that immediately confirmed they will close include Verbier, Zermatt, Saas Fee, Davos-Klosters, St Moritz, Arosa-Lenzerheide and Laax.
The Jungfrau resorts of Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren, and the central Swiss resort of Engelberg originally said they would try to stay open but have since confirmed that they will also close.
