The Val Gardena ski area on the Sella Ronda circuit in the Italian Dolomites has two new runs: the black slope La Ria and the red piste Pilat.
La Ria is located above Selva, the main resort in Val Gardena, at the top of the Dantercepies lift. It’s a new west-facing black run specially created for advanced skiers, with an average gradient of 52%. It complements Val Gardena’s other famous black run, the world cup run at Ciampinoi on the other side of Selva.
Intermediate skiers also have good news because a new red run called ‘Pilat’ has been carved out of the rocks and woods that separate the Seiser Alm from Ortisei. Nearly 4.7km long, with a vertical drop of 778m and plenty of twists and turns (most of which of which reveal amazing views of Val Gardena), this new slope means piste skiers no longer have to come down in the lift after a day on the Alpe di Siusi.
Tobogganing enthusiasts should also try the sleigh run on Alpe Resciesa on the other side of Ortisei. It’s 6km long which make it the longest in all the Dolomites.
