Grand Tourmalet
Within Grand Tourmalet, the high altitude resort of La Mongie has some inexpensive hotels and plenty of good value self-catered apartments close to the slopes. Bareges is more attractive and has a greater variety of accommodation but is a short bus-ride from the lifts. You can also stay overnight at the top of Pic du Midi.

Hotel La Crête Blanche
Budget hotel in an excellent location on the south-facing sunny side of the resort but within easy walking distance of the centre and the pistes and lifts, including the Taoulet lift to the Pic du Midi. Choice of single, double or family rooms. The hotel has its own restaurant and a large ground floor bar and lobby area.
Hotel Restaurant la Mandia 3-stars
A 3-star ski-in, ski-out hotel located at about 2000m altitude at the very top of the resort near the Sud lift. It has its own spa centre with free sauna facilities, and guests can also pay extra to use the fitness centre or book a massage.
Hotel le Pourteilh
Hotel located close to the pistes and within 200m of the Pic du Midi cable car, the nursery slopes and the Carrieres lift. It also has good value family rooms and a children’s playground.
Hotel La Taoulet
Inexpensive hotel located on the eastern edge of the resort with good views and handy for the Pic du Midi lift. The hotel has an in-house bar and restaurant.
ApartHotel Residence Mer et Golf Pic du Midi 3-stars
Located on the sunny side of the mountain near the Pic du Midi lift, the 3-star Residence Pic du Midi La Mongie offers self-catering apartments with a sauna and a swimming pool. The centre of the resort and the main lifts are only 10 minutes walk away but there is also a free shuttle bus service. For those who want to take a break from cooking, there are breakfast deliveries each morning and a restaurant within easy walking distance.
ApartHotel Maeva Particuliers Le Montana 3-stars
Located within 5 minutes walk of the lifts and pistes (including the Pic du Mid lift) and within easy walking distance of the centre, these 3 star apartments offer flexi-catering. Full kitchen facilities are provided but there is a restaurant onsite and freshly-baked bread and pastries can be delivered to your accommodation each morning.
Residence Azureva La Mongie 3-stars
Located above the center on the sunny side of the mountain and about 500m from the ski slopes, the Azureva Residence offers well equipped self-catered apartments with free private parking.

Hotels & Apartments in Bareges
Hotel Logis Le Central 3-stars
This comfortable but affordable 3-star hotel lives up to its name, being situated near the middle of the resort, close to the ski school office, the ski bus stop and the thermal baths.
Hotel Alphee 2-stars
Located in the village centre, with a ski bus stop just outside its main entrance. Highly rated by previous guests. Its restaurant provides traditional French food for dinner and continental breakfasts.
Hotel Les Castets d’Ayre 1-star
A pretty hotel in a scenic location, a 5-minutes walk from the centre of Bareges and 15-minutes by shuttle bus from the Grand Tourmalet lifts. Very highly rated by previous guests.
Residence Apartments Richelieu Bareges 2-stars
Located near the centre of Barèges, about 50m from the Barèges Ski School office, and close to the thermal baths and ski bus stop.

Staying at the top of the Pic du Midi
The old observatory on the top of the Pic du Midi at 2877m above sea level, has accommodation for up to 27 people per night in double and single rooms with catering provided by a gourmet restaurant on site. After the daytrippers have all gone home, you can watch the sunset with a drink and later at night gaze out at the stars (weather permitting!) . There are also excellent presentations and films in French about both the history of the observatory and astronomy. Then in the morning, having viewed the sunrise and eaten a hearty breakfast, off-piste skiers, freeriders and ski-tourers can set off on itineraries (hiring a guide is essential) whilst others can walk out on the spectacular viewing platform or ‘sky-bridge’ for one last time then take the cable car back down to La Mongie for a normal day’s skiing.
