Accommodation in Mount Ruapehu

Although there are more than 50 ski lodges (1500 beds) at the Whakapapa base area, these are only for the use of members and their guests.

Tourists generally stay in Whakapapa Village, just over four miles down the road, where the Chateau Tongariro offers one-of-a-kind luxury and fine dining, or National Park Village, just under 14 miles from Whakapapa, but more convenient for access to both ski fields. Ohakune, much more of a ski town (with bars and hotels to match) than Whakapapa Village, is the only logical place to stay in if you are skiing Turoa.
