Getting to Wengen

The nearest airports to Wengen are Bern, Zurich and Basel. Total transfer times are between two hours and three hours. Wengen is car-free so the last part of the journey from Lauterbrunnen up to Wengen has to be on the mountain railway.

Bern airport is actually nearest to Wengen, but Zurich, Basel and Geneva airports offer many more flights and, therefore, they are usually easier and cheaper to fly to. Airport Transfers to Wengen

Wengen is car-free, so whilst you can hire a car at the airport and drive to Lauterbrunnen, you’ll need to leave your vehicle at the multi-storey car park at Lauterbrunnen station for the duration of your stay. A private transfer by car to Lauterbrunnen (see below) can therefore make more sense. Transfers from the airport by train to Lauterbrunnen are also possible but take longer.

Getting to Wengen by Rail

Zurich and Geneva airports have a rail terminals in the airport with direct train connections via Bern to Interlaken Ost and onwards to Lauterbrunnen.

From Zurich airport to Wengen by rail takes about 3 hours, changing trains three times if taking one of the direct trains to Bern from Zurich airport, or four times if you haveto change at Zurich main station.  From Geneva airport to Wengen by rail takes about 3 hours 50 minutes, changing three times at Bern, Interlaken Ost and Lauterbrunnen.  If flying to Bern or Basel, you have to take a bus from the airport to the main station in the city centre then continue to Interlaken Ost, Lauterbrunnen and Wengen.

Driving to Wengen

Wengen cannot be reached by road so if arriving by car you must leave your car at the multi-storey car park in Lauterbrunnen near the train station then take the mountain railway. To reserve a parking space at Lauterbrunnen’s multi-storey car park tel: +41 (0) 33 828 74 00.

There are fast motorway connections most of the way from Zurich via Luzern and Geneva via Bern.

From Zurich take the E60/E41 to Luzern then E35/A8 to Interlaken or if driving from Geneva take the motorway E25/E62/E27 to Bern then follow the A8 to Interlaken.  From here good roads lead to Lauterbrunnen where you need to park (minimum period of seven days) at the multi-storey car park at Lauterbrunnen station (Wengen is car free) then it’s a short 15 minute train journey to Wengen.
