Rail Connections and Airport Shuttles to Heavenly
Amtrak trains connect to Reno. From the station in Reno take a taxi to Reno/Tahoe International Airport and then the Tahoe Casino Express to South Lake Tahoe. There’s a free shuttle service throughout South Lake Tahoe (California) and Stateline (Nevada), making stops at most major lodging properties and at the base facilities: the California Base Lodge, the base of the Heavenly Gondola in the new Village at Heavenly, and Stagecoach and Boulder Lodges in Nevada. Look for the colored “Shuttle Bus Stop” signs. An express shuttle runs from the Heavenly Gondola to California Base Lodge.
Note, that getting to South Lake Tahoe from North Lake Tahoe resorts such as Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley), Alpine Meadows or Northstar without a car is exceedingly difficult midweek. While shuttles run between the resorts on weekends, during the week there is no public transportation which runs from the North Shore to the South Shore. Plan ahead accordingly since a taxi ride from Northstar to Heavenly will be expensive.
