Getting to Whiteface
Getting to Whiteface Mountain is easy. Whiteface Mountain is approximately 280 miles (450 km) north of New York City. There are four airports within two hours drive time from Whiteface Mountain Lake Placid – Albany NY, Burlington VT, Plattsburgh, NY and Montreal, Quebec.
Getting to Whiteface-Lake Placid by air
Lake Placid is within two to two and a half hours drive time of three major airports:
Albany, NY 130 miles / 208km / 2 hours 25 minutes
Burlington, VT 70 miles / 112km / 1 hour 50 minutes
Montreal, Quebec 105 miles / 168km / 2 hours 10 minutes
Depending on a visitor’s departure airport, flying via Cape Air (Tel: +1-866-CAPE-AIR) to Adirondack Regional Airport (SLK), just 16 miles (27km) from Lake Placid, or to Plattsburgh International Airport (PGB), which is conveniently located off New York’s I-87 highway about 40 miles (64km) from Lake Placid and one hour south of Montreal (also known as “Montreal’s U.S. Airport”) may be an option. Cape Air offer daily scheduled flights between Plattsburgh International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport via Cape Air.
Getting to Whiteface Lake Placid by car
Without a car, getting to the Lake Placid region may prove a challenge. Rental cars are your best bet from one of the three nearby international airports in Albany, Burlington, or Montreal. All three airports are roughly two hours away, though, if traveling from Montreal, be sure to factor in time to cross the US-Canada border as there are waiting times to do so, and there always will be.

The State of New York operates a bus service to Whiteface from the Port Authority Bus terminal on the west side of Manhattan.
